Story line:

Jai Gangaajal is about a female cop, who takes on some powerful and influential men in her district. It is about today’s dictum of society-police relationship. ‘Gangaajal’ was more from the heart. This one has all the bizarre things happening around us in reality. The film is not made on a big scale and also has very fewer characters. It is a concentrated story. In the second installment, Priyanka Chopra will fill her Blackmail co-star’s shoes as she takes on more corruption in the hinterlands.

Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director:

Prakash Jha (born 27 February 1952) is an Indian film producer, director, and screenwriter who is mostly known for his political and socio-political films such as Damul (1984), Mrityudand (1997), Gangaajal (2003), Apaharan (2005), multistarrer hit movie Raajneeti (2010), Aarakshan (2011) Chakravyuh (2012), and Satyagraha (2013). He is also the maker of National Film Award winning documentaries like, Faces After The Storm (1984) and Sonal (2002).

He now runs a production company, Prakash Jha Productions. Prakash Jha owns the P&M Mall in Patna.

Prakash was at one time married to actress Deepti Naval with whom he has an adopted daughter Disha

Prakash Jha contested and lost the election to the Lok Sabha from his native Champaran in 2004. He again lost an election to the Lok Sabha in 2009 as Lok Janashakti Party candidate from West Champaran. He again contested 2014 Elections as a JD(U) Candidate from Bettiah and lost being second on the list.

For the last five years, Prakash Jha has been seriously involved with development initiatives in Bihar. He has been spearheading growth in infrastructure, health care and vocational training facilities in the state through the NGO Anubhooti.

My Gut Feel and comments:

“There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before.” Willa Cather

Above quotes seem true in the case of Jai Gangaajal where the storyline is typical and shot in typical Prakash Jha’s style. Priyanka as female protagonist looking impressive and reminds Rani Mukherjee of Mardaani.

Film’s length is 2 hours 38 minutes which seems high for storyline like this where higher a chance that few weak moments here and there and non-required songs break the flow of narration which impacts the movie adversely

Prakash Jha was quite rusty in his last two directorial ventures Satyagraha and Aarakshan as they both lacked the hard hitting impact one can expect from his movies may be the case he got support from big banners and huge star cast and this pressure lead to under delivering which happened with other seasoned directors as well in the past.

This time, he seems to go by the books where he himself has taken the full charge by directing as well as producing the way he did in the case of Apaharan and Gangaajal.  Going by today’s standard Jai GangaaJal’s budget is quite moderate i.e. Rs 10 crore which is surely recoverable at the box office.

The overall film seems decent one with repeat storyline still holding entertainment value.
