When it comes to celebrating Holi bollywood has given us enormous songs & situations but besides celebrating it into films. Bollywood is famous for celebrating it in real life. R.K. Studio in Mumbai is famous for celebrating it. Raj Kapoor started the tradition and at one point of time, it was really a prestigious thing for film people if they get invited.
The trend of Holi celebration in the film industry was initiated by showman Raj Kapoor, who started Holi celebration in a big way at his studio. A large number of industry people would gather there and play holi, making it a star-studded event. The tradition that was followed was that anybody who came would first be greeted with a dip in the pool of colored water. Kapoors also took care that women were treated with dignity and nobody misbehaved with them.
Holi at RK Studio continues to be an event to watch in Mumbai as the next generation of Kapoors has made it a point to continue the tradition.
Neetu Singh, the wife of Rishi Kapoor, captures some of that mood:
“Holi at RK was always fun with family and friends. There would be a lot of dancing and singing. Everyone was dunked into the pool [of colored water], but not the women, of course.
“Women only played with dry colors, and Papa saw to it that no one misbehaved with them. He would take a keen interest in the arrangements and was a wonderful host.
“I remember [Kathak dancer] Sitara Devi was one of Papa’s favorite invitees. She was full of high spirits and would dance and sing.
And here we are bringing some of the captured moments from different years of celebration:
