Fan has an unusual storyline, where King Khan will be seen in the double role. It is a story about a 25-year-old fan (Gaurav) and a 45-year-old superstar (Aryan Khanna). Aryan Khanna is a star who will have a huge fan following. As per the reports, “Fan is not just about the love of the fan for his favorite superstar. In the film, eventually Gaurav and Aryan are pitted against each other and it’s the superstar who plays the nemesis to the fan”.

Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan, Waluscha De Sousa and Shriya Pilgaonkar will play the lead roles in the film. Shah Rukh will be seen doing stunts and action like never before and will be seen as Gaurav / Aryan Khanna. Deepika Amin has roped in for the role of Gaurav’s mother while Yogendra Tiku as Gaurav’s father.

Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director:

While studying filmmaking at CalArts, Maneesh worked as an associate director on Trona (2004), an English-German student film shot in Los Angeles.

Two months after his return from the US, he got a break and started his Bollywood career as an associate director and an assistant director on a number of Yash Raj Films productions such as Fanaa, Aaja Nachle and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, before making his feature directing debut with Band Baaja Baaraat, based on a story written by himself, which was released on 10 December 2010. The film starred newcomer Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles, and was produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. Sharma’s first outing as a director garnered him India’s prestigious Filmfare Award in the Best Debut Director category.

His next film, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, was produced by Aditya Chopra and released on 9 December 2011. The critically acclaimed film starred Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma, who were also in Sharma’s first film. Sharma’s third film, Shuddh Desi Romance, released on 6 September 2013, and starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, and newcomer Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles. The film was screened in the Gala Presentation section of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

Maneesh Sharma’s fourth film is Dum Laga Ke Haisha under the YRF Banner. Yash Raj Films has always had either Yash Chopra or Aditya Chopra produce movies under the banner, but Sharma is first independent producer. The film is directed by Sharat Katariya, and stars Ayushmann Khurrana. Sharma’s second production is Akshay Roy‘s debut film Meri Pyaari Bindu starring Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana.

 My Gut Feel and comments:

As I saw the teaser of Fan, I thought it would be a light-hearted movie probably a journey of a fan end up meeting his star by the end of the movie. However, I was surprised when I saw the trailer as it was clear that story takes ugly shape in the second half of the movie. The trailer made me worried that how can this subject could be handled as it seems to be a difficult task and chances of going wrong in narration and screenplay seems very high.

Then I did some research about the director Maneesh Sharma and seen his Interview where he explained his journey around the making of Fan. The fan he conceptualized in 2006 and however as Aditya Chopra advised him to wait and made two three films before going on to this challenging subject.

Maneesh directed three movies before this one and the first one I liked the most which is Band Baaja Baaraat. Other two Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Shuddh Desi Romance were above average.

I am happy to see Shah Rukh Khan experimenting. Playing double role is indeed quite challenging and that too playing a look-alike of  half of his age. Where his character as a fan reminds character from Om Shanti Om which was quite entertaining and adorable.

To be honest I am still worried about the second half of the movie and keeping fingers cross that it would be engaging, entertaining and would not go over the top. With Maneesh around as director chances are that film as a package would be a sensible entertaining movie and Shah Rukh would live up to his fan’s expectations.
